New wines with old-time flavours.
Forty years along the path.
We have come a long way since our beginnings, and although we still have a long path ahead of us, no one wants to stop because we are moved by the very same enthusiasm.
It seems like yesterday when sixteen winegrowers established a cooperative they named “Cantina Valtidone” and coined the motto “present-day classics” which has always been the expression of their commitment. The cooperative has held by this principle even after growing from its small local origin to become a well-established business known well outside the province.
It was 1966.
The Cantina was established in Borgonovo, in the heart of the Val Tidone valley which is in the middle of the Colli Piacentini D.O.C. wine area. Albeit with new premises, state-of-the-art laboratories and a modern wine shop, the Cantina stands in its original location, still in the middle of the luxuriant vineyards from which it gets its vital lymph.
An extraordinary growth in the number of members.
Today the cooperative numbers approximately 300 members who bring to the Cantina over 9,000 tons of grapes amounting to approximately one quarter of Piacenza’s total grape harvest. All of our grapes are grown only on the hills of the Val Tidone valley. The vineyards are constantly monitored with the assistance of experts in the field who advise on the most advanced grape growing techniques. After grape-gathering, we apply the same careful attention to the critical processes of wine vinification and ageing.
This is because the Cantina targets quality not quantity, being fully aware that only good wine conquers the market. We favour quality not only in super-premium wines but also in wines destined to larger distribution, irrespective of their selling price.
The production of Cantina Valtidone includes practically the full range of Piacenza’s famous wines and ranges from the classic Gutturnio wine to Barbera, Bonarda, Pinot Grigio, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Nero and Ortrugo.
